The Building Stage

Dracula

Adapted from the novel by Bram Stoker
Conceived and Directed by Blake Montgomery
September 18 - October 18, 2008

The Building Stage once again puts its unique spin on familiar cultural icons with this adaptation of the classic vampire myth. Told primarily through image and music in a style inspired by silent films, graphic novels, and physical theater, this new vision utilizes Bram Stoker's story to ask a startling question: What if, driven by fear, Van Helsing and his colleagues have embarked on a path of misguided righteousness? What if our notion of who is hero and who is villain is completely misguided?

We believe theater is made not written. And while every project has its own unique process of creation, each is driven by the spirit of investigation: to ask, through action on the stage, how a piece functions, how it is constructed, and what must be done to make it work.
