The Ring Cycle
Explore the Play
The adaptation of Richard Wagner's four-opera epic, Der Ring des Nibelungen, is The Building Stage's most ambitious project to date and has quickly become one of the most talked about productions in the current Chicago theater season. Working from both Wagner's original libretti as well as his orchestral scores, the company has created a six-hour theater event driven by an onstage rock band telling the entire story ofThe Ring Cycle.
"Is it worth your time? Absolutely!" Chicago Tribune
"Time flies when great stories are compellingly told and having a chance to experience all four of these works in a single sitting is something that would be impossible to achieve in the opera house." New City
"Absolutely quite fascinating, contemporary yet timeless. An inspiration for people who have some knowledge of opera and Wagner and for people who've never been to an opera at all to dive in... Time just flies!" Andrew Patner, WFMT
A story of the choice between love and power, the journey from youth to maturity, and the battle of good versus evil, this epic myth looks at who we are, where we have come from, what we can be, and ultimately what it will take to change the world.
With award-winning directors and designers, a team of talented actors, and a top-notch band, The Building Stage has transformed Wagner's masterpiece into an exciting, modern, theatrical event, bringing this amazing story to audiences who would never see an opera while giving fans of Wagner the chance of seeing his work in a new light. The Ring Cycle lasts approximately six hours and includes 2 short intermissions as well as 45-minute dinner break.
We encourage our audience to bring a picnic or purchase a boxed dinner at least 24 hours in advance from our catering partner Bari Italian Deli. Bring your blanket and join in an onstage wintertime picnic. Snacks and beverages will also be available at the theater during the run of the show.
